Create application-specific networks on the fly by configuring dedicated circuits whenever you need them. Whatever the distance, you get deterministic bandwidth without affecting shared-bandwidth resources – other users won’t complain about a slow network. And your applications will perform the way they should. When you no longer need the dedicated circuit, simply switch the bandwidth to where it can be of more use.
You get true, sustained, 10 Gbit/s throughput – so your network switching performance can now match the data speeds of your interfaces. Use our switch to connect any protocol or data rate – gigabit Ethernet, HD video, and to manage true lambdas, one wavelength at a time. In fact, we’ve proved the reliability of our switch at 40 Gbit/s sustained throughput, so it will work great without any modifications when you upgrade your network interfaces.
The Glimmerglass switch handles any interface and protocol. How is this possible? Our switch makes circuit connections in the network by optically redirecting the laser light carried by fibers without converting the laser energy into electronic signals. As a result, information is connected in light as lambdas (wavelengths), not as data in a particular protocol and rate. Connections are transparent; completely agnostic to signal type. And for high data rates, like 10GigE, it saves a lot of money too!
Ever want to provision a new fiber path around a network fault? Without dispatching an engineer to do it manually, that is. Now you can. The Glimmerglass solution continuously monitors every connection and will detect any physical interruption of the optical transmission – say a cut fiber or equipment failure. It can then automatically change input-to-output connections to establish a pre-defined secondary protection path.
Control the switch with point-and-click browser-based functionality, or with your own program, directing it through its programming interface. Print reports from across the globe – not just about what’s connected where, but for how long and at what optical power. In other words, you can now provision, monitor, and analyze your fiber connections from any computer with Internet access, anywhere in the world.
Are you interested in developing optical control planes? You can only go so far without testing your software on real hardware. Use the Glimmerglass switch to set up and tear down optical connections that test your algorithms. It’s easy to integrate – Glimmerglass customers have integrated their control software to our products in less than a day.
Need to add capacity to your network? Replace old equipment with new? Planning to upgrade your network to include 10GigE capabilities? Our switch works with any interface and makes new connections and configurations extremely easy to implement. Plus, if the upgrade has teething problems, you can restore the older configuration within seconds, keeping the network going while you sort out the problem.
If you need permanent, guaranteed bandwidth for an application that won’t tolerate delays, you can’t afford to hope that network congestion won’t affect it. Uncompressed HD video, for example, requires smooth, continuous transmission at over 1 Gbit/s. The Glimmerglass switch does not buffer data or resend it. It guarantees information flow at the speed of light.
